Sands of Kahana Vacation Club

I will start by saying that we have been owners at the Sands for over 30 years. The units are large and spacious but are seriously lacking in cleanliness and maintenance. It seems each year to get progressively worse.

My trip was in April of 2024. You don't want to stay in this resort. It had cockroaches in the kitchen as we checked in. When you let the front desk know, they didn't care to take any action. As we finally asked to change room, the other unit had less but still had those little ones crawling around. Yak!!!!!

Our experience started off poorly when we were unable to check into our room until more than an hour after the 4:00 p.m. check-in time because the room was not ready. FYI we got to the hotel at noon. Unfortunately, things only got worse from there. As soon as we walked into the room, there was a terrible odor. During our stay, we discovered a rat inside the kitchen trash can. I immediately reported the issue to the hotel, but their response was inadequate. They delivered only two sticky traps and didn't even clean up the rat droppings that were scattered around the room. I ended up going to the store to purchase additional traps myself. I also asked if they could seal the holes where the rats were getting in, but they refused to address the problem. Despite repeatedly reporting the issue, we continued seeing rats every day of our stay. The room was unsanitary, uncomfortable, and completely unacceptable. I even contacted the hotel through Expedia afterward and never received a response. The management was unresponsive and showed little concern for guest safety or cleanliness. The attached photos clearly show the rat droppings that were throughout the room. I strongly recommend avoiding the hotel rooms at this property.
