Drake

We are a HiltonHonors rewards member. The Drake is an historic hotel and my son had stayed there on a business trip, so he recommended it. He did preface that it is not modern like we prefer, but his room was nice. Prior to arriving, we went on the Hilton app and requested early check in. The hotel replied that if the room is ready, we will get early check in. We arrived at 10:45 am and the front desk told us our room is ready, but we would be charged an additional $25.00 if we want early check in. That is NOT what was explained to us. Since there was a storm outside and we didn’t want to sit around for a few hours until regular check in, we paid the extra $25.00. The room was a nice size, but the bathroom was old. The faucet had low water pressure and kept changing temperature from cold to warm. The ceiling was peeling and there were mold spots on the ceiling as well. We reported this to the front desk. Instead of offering to switch our room, someone came while we were out and painted the ceiling to cover the mold. That is NOT mold remediation! The housekeeping was disappointing! We requested extra towels and pillows upon check in, and they were not in the room when we arrived. We requested it from the front desk before we went touring, but nothing again in the room when we returned. The 3rd time we requested it, someone came to our room. Another day when we returned from a full day of sightseeing, the bathtub/shower was not cleaned and the sheets were not changed. We reported this as well. The following day, the bathtub/shower seemed to be cleaned and hopefully the sheets were changed. For the high price that we paid for the 4 nights that we stayed at The Drake, we certainly didn’t get what we paid for, and weren’t offered another room or partial refund for our inconvenience.

Great historical hotel close to nice beach on lake Michigan, main avenues withing walking distance to the River with cruises and much more. We like to have breakfast and dinner with historical setting around us.

Very bad night sleepless because of noise from Lake Shore Drive intersection. I paid for a nice room with a view. I never slept because of deafening motorcycle and thinking noise. They have the really old windows with no soundproofing. Why does the management even rent that room? (429) The room actually shook with the noise. Could they have given me a higher floor or further away from the street, as the hotel was empty—yes. Go somewhere else.
