If I could rate 4.5, I would but it only lets me choose whole stars, so a 4 it is.
My husband and I rented a condo unit for 2 nights for our Anniversary. During checkin we were asked what our trip was for and when telling them, they congratulated us and then surprised us with a bottle of champagne and some ice to put it on. This was very kind and unexpected.
The condo itself was beautiful. We picked one that was more modern and cozy. It was not an issue for us, but I thought that with it having a walk out porch, it would be on the main level of the parking lot. It was down below, with approximately 8 to 10 steps to take. Not an issue for us, but I could see how it would be a problem for those with mobility issues, especially if they were unaware of it being that way. The condo was exactly how it looked in photos and was very quiet and peaceful feeling. I would rent this exact one again if available. It was LC03 for this inquiring. Also this developmemt in the Galena territory comes with access to their own small outdoor pool, so that was a nice surprise and would be great for those traveling with kids as the main resort pool is only indoor!
We only ate at one restaurant during our stay(tried for 2 but that is explained later), The Woodlands. This was the more fancier/formal dining restaurant. They had a Happy Anniversary sign at our table for us (I did book a reservation on OnlyTable and mentioned thats what the dinner was for). The restaurant was quiet and elegant. We got the Burrata appetizer, which was very fresh and tasty. The homemade focacia they serve was also amazing. My husband and I split the Lobster Cavatappi and the New York Strip. The Lobster Cavatappi was good, but based on the description we expected it to come with an actual lobster tail. It just came with a tails worth of diced lobster meat, still cooked appropriately though. The New York strip was cooked medium rare to my liking and was seasoned well. The crumble and glaze on the carrots was nice too. It is a large 10 oz cut, with probably 3 oz being inedible for me as I am not someone who likes the fatty pieces. We finished out the meal with the mango/cocounut cake dessert. It was an acquired taste. Definitely fresh, but its one of those desserts that is better when everything is scooped up and mixed together in one bite. My husband wasnt a fan, but he's not a tropical/fruity enjoying person. Overall the meal was very good. The waitress was great and the Cherry Mule and Prosecco I ordered were delicious.
Now for the 2 complaints that dropped the rating down:
On our first evening we attempted to go to the more casual restaurant that overlooks the golf course. The shuttle driver dropped us off and we walked in. The restaurant was completely abandoned. Half of the lights were off and no staff were present. The restaurant was supposed to be open for dinner until 8 and we showed up at 6:45 to find it this way. There must not have been any communication to the main resort and therefore the shuttle that they weren't open, so we had to call the shuttle back to come get us and take us to the other restaurant in which I quickly made a reservation on the drive to ensure we could eat there at least. (We could only find 2 Mexican restaurants that would deliver to the resort fyi) No Doordash, Grubhub, or UberEats really exists except for those 2 places and 2 other pizza places would deliver if contacted direct.
The other complaint would be housekeeping related. Everything important was clean, bedding, floors, dishes, surfaces, etc.. but there were 2 minor and unsightly issues. In the bathroom in particular, neither the showerhead or drain has seemed to be cleaned. Both were either rusted, calcified, or had white crusty films on them. The other issue was around the doors there were a lot of dead bugs that housekeeping just missed. Not the biggest deal, but obvious when looking.
Also worth noting: The shuttle service was super convenient. We took it to two restaurants on the resort. The one restaurant was in the main building and the shuttle driver happened to still be in the lobby when we finished. Recognizing us, he offered the drive back to our condo without even being asked. We also took the shuttle to downtown Galena which is an awesome perk! The shuttle also is available for the return trip up to 9:45pm in case anyone stayed down there for some after dinner drinks.
