Redstone Inn And Suites

For my birthday, we planned a trip to Galena, IL, and thought this would be a good place for a one-night stay. Unfortunately, we were very wrong. We arrived before check-in and were told to sit in the lobby, which did not make a great first impression, but after about 3–5 minutes, the manager or owner—he never introduced himself—took our information and walked us to our room. To his credit, he carried our luggage up the stairs since there was no elevator and our room was on the third floor. Once inside, he showed us how to use the remote, called us senior citizens, warned us not to sit on the chairs because they might break, and told us not to move or adjust the air conditioner. The second photo shows the ceiling, including duct tape holding up the wallpaper. After he left, my husband and I went out to move our car and find something to eat. I already wanted to leave, but we had prepaid, and my husband knows I can be particular about where I stay. We walked around Dubuque for about an hour before returning to the room. My husband lay down on the bed while I went to the bathroom, where I noticed a sign that said, “Don’t stain the towels.” When I came out and saw a stain on the sheet, I said I was done. My husband agreed, and we packed up and left. We did not speak to the manager or owner before leaving, which may not have been ideal, but I was not willing to spend another moment there. After finding another hotel, I emailed the property to let them know we had left and requested a full refund. They replied that since they had not been given the opportunity to move us to another room, the best they could offer was a free night’s stay. Needless to say, we will not be returning, but I wanted to warn others about our experience.

Neat place but needs work. Place is rustic but clean and ok for a night or two. No elevator stairs got to be a bit much Breakfast was ok not sure I would go back

Nice B&B within walking distance to most things downtown. Room was very quiet, shower only. Had a window AC AND a fan, which we loved having. The breakfast was wonderful. Really enjoyed it! Be sure and read full description of your room though, we had a double room listed which is not the same as a regular double room in most places. It only had 1 Double bed! We would only stay again if a Queen/King bed were available. Other than a billing issue, would recommend this B&B.
