We came up to Treetops for a company retreat in September and had a blast. The food was good and the convention center was well furnished, not stodgy at all. The golf courses were gorgeous and challenging. We took off for a hike with very little guidance and Ed from the resort rolled up on a cart and helped us find a trail. He came back around and checked in on us half way thru and made sure we still on track. Would definitely come back.

The golf courses are spectacularly scenic, extremely difficult and beautifully maintained. NOT recommended for seniors because the "geofencing" is so restrictive just about every green and fairway shot means a long arduous uphill climb. Very slow play too, which at my age, gets a bit annoying. Lots of Joe Pro types who take ten minutes to read a put, take multiple warmup swings, go back to the bag and change clubs, then a few more warmup swings and a consultation with another golfer then, mercifully hits the ball a few yards forward into the woods. They put tee times ten minutes apart yet consider 4 hours 35 minutes to be ideal speed. Huh? that means a ten plus minute wait at every hole if the anticipated typical speed is ten minutes per hole. The accommodations were less than ideal. Again, NOT recommended for seniors. There are no elevators in the Inn which means dragging all of your luggage up very narrow steep stairways and down long hallways. No bell carts because there are no elevators. One nice feature is a small freezer in the mini fridge to keep your Yeti ice frozen. Food in the restaurant was okay, nothing special, but not too bad.

Must have been a bad day? We arrived and found each desk harder to navigate than the one before. At lodging reception the desk attendant was cold and unresponsive to simple requests. Same style of nasty at the golf shop. Then when we found out that my request to remove an extra golfer who had a family commitment (I’d given 2 week notice) was only applicable on the par 3 course, we were denied the request to remove him from the Fazio reservation, that seemed strange too. When asked if we could hike somewhere on the huge campus, ski runs, golf courses, anywhere to get steps in, we were sent to the golf house for suggestions and then told at that desk to go into town. The trails in Gaylord are nice indeed. On the upside the our waitress at breakfast was happy, courtious and attentive. The Tree Tops golf courses are top notch, except for on Mondays when it must be tee box repair time as we were interrupted by landscaping crews talking all around us on 3 of the 9 tee boxes as we stepped up to hit our drives.
