Starlite Budget Inn

We have stayed here multiple times. I'm writing the review because I wonder if some of these reviews are fraudulent. This visit we got Rm 32. After a few hours I could not stand what I thought was a musty smell. I called to get a different room for the next night. The clerk immediately asked if we wanted to move right now. I thought because we used the bathroom, laid on the bed, etc. they would not allow it, but they did. We later saw it cleaned and another couple with a dog rented it. Maybe it was dog smell as we are not used to dogs. Regardless, they solved our issue. We then went to Room 23. I will attach pictures of the room. We have found their rooms adequate for all of our stays. No, it's not the Hyatt. About the only thing I could say is the AC unit looked like it needed to be wiped/cleaned and the trim around it could have been maintained better. Behind the nightstand it looked like they had not spring cleaned in a while, I noticed this when I unplugged my phone charger. When I made the first reservation they charged $128; I called back to add another day and I told her I saw it online for $70 and she gave me the room for $70 so we averaged about $90 a night. I didn't use the online reservation as I don't trust those I want to talk directly to the hotel, so ALWAYS ASK FOR THE ONLINE rate or just plain ask for $70. They are not that busy so they should be able to give you the deal. Our friends thought they saw goose poop in the outdoor pool but I didn't notice it. The hot tub could stand to be painted, but it looked and smelled sanitized. Same for the other two pools that are enclosed. There are three hotels all in a row and you have to go to the Thunderbird to check in. That is a bit of an inconvenience. We had to hunt down where the ice machine was as I thought you had to go to the Thunderbird for it. It was located in a corner room at the Star-Lite. It would be nice to have an info sheet in the room. As many times as we've stayed, we have never gotten bed bugs or any other bugs. I did see a May Fly, but it's the UP, to be expected. They had a sheet at check in that explained the bugs. I will attach it. We still saw no bugs but the May fly. We plan to rent American owned motels in the future, but if you are a family traveling this is budget friendly and they have a play yard for kids and access to 3 pools. Near the pool there is a BBQ also if you wanted to grill. It's by the separate motel in the middle. There is also 2 bedroom units. We would get this when our sons were teens. I didn't want to watch their TV so my husband and I had a room with a TV. It had a huge open area with table and we could bring our cooler in. I just felt I had to write a review because all the reviews seemed nasty and we've never experienced that after staying here multiple times. The worst I can say is I didn't appreciate being charged the higher price when they obviously could go down to $70 a night. It was a special even weekend, though, so I did think it normal to charge that high. If I ever were to stay again, I'd ask for $70 a night outright. The clerk was a bit snarky at first, but ended up helping us when we wanted the room switch. The hot water control was leaking a of water but still functioned. I left a note for them to maintain it. Yes, the two beds didn't match in height, but they were comfortable and clean. One of the bed bases was a bit worn and needed to be painted. In general, the whole room could have used to be repainted chips on border, etc. but it was functional. Who cares if it is outdated regarding the spreadsheets on the bed? If they eve update, I hope they leave the original tile in the bathrooms. It's cool IMO. Yes, the toilet could be upgraded as it was short. We prefer taller toilets. Overall we've been happy renting a room from here over the years even though I see many bashing reviews.

DO NOT STAY AT THIS PROPERTY! I've never said that for a stay anywhere, but this hotel (or at least OUR room) should be closed, fully rehabbed, and only then reopened. Carpeting we did not want to touch. Mold/mildew in the bathroom. Caulking and insulation around windows and A/C unit coming apart. Multiple live spiders. Dust & webs in most every corner. Holes in the towels. Oh, and both the showerhead AND the toilet were loose. The bowl moved everytime you sat down. The shower gave everytime you moved the head. Ugh!!

Room stank of mildew. We'll never darken thier door again.
