Holiday Inn Southgate Detroit South

The hotel is a bit on the older side but staff make the stay a joy. Some things in our room showed signs of wear, such as the beaded lines used to raise and lower the shades and the bathtub spout which was a bit off center. But these were minor concerns. The room was well-designed, with a spot where 2 suitcases could be laid out, open, instead of having only one luggage rack. Beds were very comfortable. The hotel has advanced the comfort of their pillows from the torture blocks of foam of older days to something that feels like a real pillow. The room and hotel was really clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. We particularly appreciated Brittany's help in making the reservations. Her co-worker on Sunday morning, May 3rd, was a big help in giving us the name of a great breakfast place after our dithering got us ready for breakfast after the hotel breakfast closed. We have family in the area and will stay here when we return. Thanks Brittany and everyone!

I rented this venue to have family time, a great time was had by all. Brittany was very helpful and very experience in customer service. I could NOT have planned a stay at a better place that suited my needs for my family outing than Holiday Inn Express (Southgate). This place comes highly recommended and the staff (Brittany) were the best.

This location is easy to access from I-75. We received a pleasant welcoming greeting from the evening clerk and that set the tone for our visit. Everyone we dealt with during our 5-night stay was friendly. Karen shepherded the breakfast throughout our visit and she did a good job of keeping things stocked and clean. She was also fun to talk with every morning and made us feel welcome. Likewise, Brittany at the front desk was a daily ray of sunshine and laughter. The night maintenance guy and our housekeeper were also present to converse with. Our room faced I-75 so there was some road noise, but it was minor. The blackout curtain in our room rocked! Two minor quibbles: the bathroom door closed against a metal door frame, so it was loud. I asked maintenance for a door silencer (the holes are there in the frame) and they don't have any. A quick side trip to Home Depot for rubber bumpers solved that. The second one is they choose to restrict access to the hotel from midnight to 5:00am to only the front door. For everyone. Your room key is useless on the side/rear parking lot doors during that period. They have a decent fitness room with treadmills and ellipticals and some free weights. The motion lights don't sense you on the treadmill so it can get somewhat dark without warning. I did not check out the indoor pool. We'd certainly come back to this property if we stay in this area again.
