Travelers Lodge Motel Marshall

We were traveling through this area and did not have much choice about accommodations as other properties we saw were sold out. Our stay in this hotel/motel was extremely disappointing. It is very outdated and badly in need of renovation. There was a worn out recliner in our room with handmade covers attached to the arms to cover worn off fake leather upholstery. Be aware that there is no shampoo or condition in the units--not sure we have ever encountered that before but fortunately I had some travel size products with us. The bathtub was disgusting with "rusty" treads in the bottom and around the fixtures. The outlet right next to the bathroom sink is not GFI. Not sure if that is legal and meets code in Minnesota since it is such an old property but it doesn't seem safe to me. (see photo). Replacing old outlets with GFY is not that costly. We moved the nightstand so we had a surface for playing cards and saw something that resembled dog poop although it seemed an unlikely spot for that. (see photo). When I reported it to the desk clerk in the morning and showed the photo, he suggested it might be "chew" (like tobacco). He admitted that neither was acceptable but simply said "sorry about that" without any offer for compensation. We would definitely not recommend staying at this hotel. FYI--I did look at a room before check-in, The clerk was certain I would like the room. I can't say that I did but since we did not want to drive any farther, we stayed. In retrospect, I wish we had kept driving even though it would have taken a significant amount of time to find a larger town with better options. Suggest that other travelers plan their stops better than we did but we were not aware of the type of available properties.

his is an old property that doesn’t look like much from the outside. But the room was clean and comfortable, the gentleman running it was friendly, and so was his dog. Wi-Fi works fine. We stayed in an upgraded “suite,” which operated as a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchenette, refrigerator and microwave, a dining table in a living room with large pull-out sleeper sofa (pretty good quality sleeper, tbh), and a television. A door separated that section from a bathroom and a bedroom with two double beds, dresser, television, etc. there were air conditioning units in each section. Everything was very clean, and we were very comfortable during our short stay here! The Mexican restaurant next door was also very tasty and very reasonably priced, though they did not, in fact, honor the 10 percent discount the hotel advertised they would offer. Perhaps that is something they used to do but discontinued. We didn’t really care, because it wasn’t too expensive anyway

I rate this between 4 and 5 stars. The motel is basic but clean and it's nice to be able to park right in front of your room. It's pretty modern for the most part as there have been some updates done to the rooms over the years. The manager is extremely friendly and deserves an A plus in customer service. The Travelers Inn is a great value with a lot of nearby conveniences including a bar and grill and Applebee's within walking distance. There is no continental breakfast but the restaurant next door is very good, fast (order at the counter) and reasonable. The only downside to the Travelers Inn is that there are some long term residents who you can hear as they are hanging around outside (we felt totally safe though).
