Casas de Suenos Old Town Country Inn

Wow. What a great place to stay. The room had everything you would need. There was a small kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. The king bed was extremely comfortable. It was high off the floor, but there was a stepstool if you need it. In the center of town, but quiet and serene. The breakfast room was decorated with artwork from both Southwest and Native American artists. The breakfast was made to order. After a week travelling through New Mexico, we were happy to get a standard American breakfast of pancakes and French toast. On our next trip to Albuquerque, we will definitely return.

I did a lot of research before booking at Casa de Suenos but clearly not enough. We were in the Willis Casita, which has a ridiculously high, overly soft, king bed with painful metal mattress edges. The bed is beautiful but completely impractical, especially for anyone with mobility needs. We are both tall and yet our feet dangled high off the edge of the bed. We had to launch ourselves into bed to even get into it. It was absurd. The space was tight once we brought in our luggage. There’s one low-slung chair that neither of us sat in because it was so low and looked painful to get out of. The only other seating options are two high barstools (impossible for me to use) or the adobe tiled benches that are part of the fireplace. The bathroom is pretty at first glance but outdated to the extreme. All the fixtures are black and show signs of wear. The shower stall is a hazard with no grab bars and slippery floor. The toilet is about 13-inches high, also with no grab bars and the flush is in the corner against the wall. There are two shelves near the sink that are still inadequate. For a large-ish bathroom, the space is not laid out in a friendly or useful way. And it’s definitely not accessible in any possible way. This is why I claim user error because this room isn’t labeled accessible, so I shouldn’t have expected that. However, literally everything about the room was difficult to navigate, was not comfortable, or was completely impractical, even for my able-bodied spouse. The ceiling is pretty, if you don’t mind waking with the sun because of the skylight. We ended up canceling our next seven nights because the room was impossible for us to be comfortable in. We neither expected or asked for a refund on our pre-paid nights and expected to eat the loss, but Casa de Suenos very generously refunded us the rest of our stay, so we are very appreciative. Obviously, I have physical needs not everyone has, but everyone benefits from accessibility and this room doesn’t have it and I think others should know what they’re getting into.

My husband and I have stayed at Casas de Sueños a total of five times. It is the most beautiful, quaint, and charming place, and it is so well kept up! We have had exceptional service every time we have visited! The made to order breakfast is superb, and along with the additional continental items included, we always end up having a delicious feast! No expense was spared regarding the new hot tub area, but yet the price for staying here is very reasonable! I cannot say enough good things about this place! Until next time…………….♥️
