Best Western Steven's Inn

Overall very positive experience. Room was spacious and had a microwave and refrigerator. I did have a issue with the keycards working. But they were proactive in resolving it and gave me a a discount for the inconvenience. They did charge what they call an "amenity fee" which apparently is equivalent to a resort fee which they refunded upon bringing it to their attention, but that was a bit of a surprise.

This is a decent hotel but it's seen better days. The rooms are very clean and quiet but the furniture is in desperate need of updating. The bed was very uncomfortable. The "breakfast buffet" was basic with very few options - this is why I stayed at the hotel and it left me very disappointed. Considering the price in Carlsbad, I wouldn't stay here again. There are other, newer and cheaper, options in town with the same basics - get breakfast at a local restaurant.

We are often in Carlsbad visiting family and this is my favorite place to stay. Its nothing fancy, but you get more than you pay for with the free hot breakfast and atmosphere. Its old, I'd almost say historic in these times, and well maintained for its age. The pool and palms make me feel like im in an old postcard and I love it. The restaurant on premises is good and the bar makes it lively.
