The One Boutique Hotel

Would never stay here again. Arrived and lobby was disgusting with people arguing about money, room smelled of very old smoke. Photos look okay but room is very old with paint problems and falling apart carpet. Hotel sits next to police station, which should feel safe, but every time they leave with sirens, you hear it. In morning, elevator broken, we are in fifth floor and our key doesn’t work. We walk stairs past two piles of very old dry vomit, get new key, climb back again, only for key to not work. We had six pieces of luggage, all carried down five flights. Simply terrible.

**Absolutely Unacceptable Experience – Left Without Staying** I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. On **July 18**, I checked into the hotel and was assigned **Room 506**. The moment the elevator doors opened on the fifth floor, I was hit with a strong marijuana odor. Unfortunately, the smell inside my room was even worse. I immediately went to the front desk to report the problem. The solution? They moved me to **Room 501**—on the same floor. It smelled just as bad. At that point, it was obvious the entire floor had a serious issue, and there was no way I was going to stay there. To make matters worse, the elevator was broken when I decided to leave, so I had to carry all of my luggage down **five flights of stairs**. The most frustrating part was the hotel's response. The front desk refused to issue a refund even though they could not provide a clean, odor-free room. When I asked to speak with the manager, I was told the manager was unavailable. No apology, no effort to make things right, and no concern that I was leaving because the rooms were uninhabitable. I paid for a clean, comfortable hotel room and received neither. Between the overwhelming marijuana smell, the broken elevator, the lack of customer service, and the refusal to refund my money, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. I would not stay here again, and I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone expecting a clean room or decent customer service.

Severe weather had canceled scores of flights so my family and I were left scrambling for accommodation while we awaited our re-scheduled flight the next day. It didn’t occur to me at the time, but tens of thousands of fellow travelers were in the exact same predicament and had snapped up every available decent hotel room. By the time we started looking for a place to sleep all the decent hotels were already at 100% occupancy. We started scraping the bottom of the barrel and ended up at The One Boutique Hotel in Flushing. Their carefully worded promotional material claims each, “guest room has been designed to provide elegance and striking beauty through its simplistic and clean designs.” Yikes. That is taking extreme liberty with the definition of elegance, and the shared understanding of what a simplistic and clean design is. At best this is a somewhat-clean shop-worn flop house with great air-conditioning. We were assigned rooms on the 7th floor. Little did we know that the 7th Floor Screamer has taken up long-term residence on that floor. In fact, at the time of our visit he had been living there nine months. I know because at 3:48 AM he was standing in the hall screaming and informed me as much. He also explained that he was screaming because he was being righteous with his woman. I was left with the impression that this elegant hotel with striking beauty through simplistic and clean designs rents out rooms for long term accommodation to people on the streets of Flushing. The 7th Floor Screamer was quite comfortable to stand in the hallway (at 3:48 AM) shirtless and in trousers that appeared to have been soiled with the fetid excreta of a back-alley toilet. He was also articulate enough to explain his rationale for needing to righteously scream at his woman through the closed door of his room. He curbed his volume when I suggested he take his righteousness elsewhere or I would call the police (who conveniently maintain a station right next door). Within an hour, however, he and his woman were screaming again. They had screaming sessions again several times before we checked out at 8 AM. It may be tempting to book a room at this elegant hotel with striking beauty through simplistic and clean designs, but after nine months of residency the 7th Floor Screamer doesn’t seem to be moving on any time soon. You would have a more enjoyable and peaceful stay across the street at the new Westin if they have any rooms.
