The Red Coach Inn

David and I stayed for 3 nights in the Canterbury room on the second floor. The staff were always helpful and polite -- the person at the check in desk who also carried our luggage from the curb up to our room, the staff person who carried our luggage down on our check out date, and waitstaff in the dining room. The included breakfasts were excellent. The apartment itself was roomy and very attractive. Also, it would be helpful to have a bench or step in order to help the guest to get onto the very high bed. The lights definitely needed stronger light bulbs. The only place we had enough light to read was sitting on the high stools at the kitchen table. The location can't be beat -- an easy 15 minute walk to the falls and view of the rapids from our windows. We knew that there was no elevator, but we did not understand that some fairly common features that would make the rooms and the dining room area more accessible were not available. For example, one needs to go outside in order to get from the welcome desk to the stairs that go up to our room. Even though we had a second floor room, there were actually three flights of stairs. Getting to those stairs requires first going to the porch area which required walking up two or three brick stairs with no railing, and the bricks themselves were significantly broken. Then from the porch area, you go up another two steps to the actual dining room area. Again, no railing. The modern stall shower in our apartment had nothing to hold onto -- no grab bar and even the recessed shelf for soap and shampoo had no place to grab it. The sliding door also had no bar or handle on it. I looked into the apartment next to ours. They had a large whirlpool tub, and again no way to hold on. I have never been in a hotel room in this country that did not have a grab bar in the shower or tub area. My husband and I sometimes use either a cane or walking poles and had those with us, so we managed OK. But clearly a guest with a walker would have significant problems. It is possible that the first floor rooms would be more accessible, although those also require going up a flight of stairs. I know that our grown kids and grandchildren would have no problems with the Inn. However, as senior citizens, we were surprised and worried that we might get hurt while navigating the Inn. If we return to the Falls area, we will need to find another place to stay. In addition, if any of senior friends decide to try this trip, we will recommend they look elsewhere for lodging.

We have traveled extensively and stayed at many hotels, etc. This was by far in the top three. The location is perfect to walk to any activities or sights by the Falls. The atmosphere cannot be beat. We felt like we were part of a family in both the inn and restaurant. The rooms are spacious and VERY clean. We heard no noise from outside or inside the Inn. The value was exceptional! Their service was TOP on our list of places we have stayed - friendly, welcoming, and anything we needed was taken care of immediately. We encountered many staff members during our stay, and they all were welcoming, friendly, and sincere. And the food, service, and staff in the restaurant can't be beat!!!! We highly recommend The Red Coach Inn!
