Comfort Inn Canton

We stopped at the Quality Inn in Canton NC for an overnight to break up a long drive. Our stay had a strange start. The desk person greeted us at the car asking if we had a reservation. The implication was that if we didn’t they didn’t have a room for us. Since we had a reservation, he proceeded to a lobby computer telling us that the “system was down.” Check in completed we were told to drive to the back of the building to access our mid hallway rooms. We were told emphatically not to use a closer door and that all exterior doors were to be left open since it was about to rain and the doors stick. What???? Strange. Back in the car we noticed a very empty parking lot for a place with no rooms available. The rooms were fine. They seemed clean and comfortable. Exterior doors were closed as it got dark. Unfortunately some “visitors” were already there. We spotted roaches in the bathroom when we turned on the light. Yuck! Of course we notified management. We were told that this has not happened before and then were asked, “We’re they in the bathroom?” Hmmmm To compensated the manager gave us a 15% discount. Not enough. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone, in fact I recommend that you avoid it.

Warning at least half of their rooms require 16 steps to reach the second level. Don't bother with the "breakfast", it is way below any the most modest continental breakfast standards. Rooms are fairly clean and the pool area is attractive. I was checked in by the manager. Very sour soul and not helpful.

Note that I assign a rating of four to a chain hotel that lives up to, but doesn't exceed, expectations for the brand. This Quality Inn offered no surprises. Check-in was friendly and efficient. The rooms was clean and comfy. Wireless internet was robust, buffet breakfast had the usual food items. I have found Choice Hotels to be mostly predictable and that's why I continue to look at them first when travelling.
