Varsity Inn South Hotel

We stayed here previously, and for the price, along with the nice perk of breakfast and coffee, it was a decent experience. So, we decided to stay again on a second trip. The first room we were given had a strong smoky odor, so we asked to switch rooms. The second room smelled better, but the cleanliness was disappointing. I was particularly bothered by a large ball of dust next to the bed, which was also full of bugs. On the positive side, the coffee and free breakfast sandwich were great in the morning, and the staff was friendly and accommodating

We did not have a good experience here and I would not recommend this place! We made a booking on Expedia when we were a couple of hours out. We actually come into the city instead of skirting around on our cross country trip because we read such nice comments and saw such high ratings. We arrived a little after 9pm and had to look around for someone to let us in the locked office. The gal who appeared didn't look at us or say a word - she just unlocked the door. Then, she told us the double beds we reserved were not available and she could only give us a single king bed. As we were speaking to her, my friend touched a very sticky chair and asked for a bathroom so she could wash her hands. She was told “we don’t have bathrooms here”. We also noticed a notepad on the counter that looked like it had staff notes that said “found little black bugs in room”. This shook our confidence and so rather than share a bed, we continued down the road. Not sure why this place has such high marks. We wish we would have stopped much sooner at somewhere cheaper and outside of town.

We have been trying different hotels near camps because our son will be going in the fall. This hotel checked most of the boxes for us. It was very clean and rather spacious. The staff was very friendly even on the first night when we didn't make it to town until about midnight. The Crimson Coffee sandwiches are perfect for running to campus and tasty. The beds were clean and had plenty of pillows although they were a little hard for me. Both my son and husband had no problem sleeping.
