For a Saturday night stay at Tulsa’s Quality Inn Downtown West, we arrived at the front desk at 6:30pm to check in. There was no one at the desk. After waiting 5 minutes a raised my voice towards the open doorway into the back office “Is anybody here?”. No one responded. After another 5 minutes I opened the “Employees Only” door and stepped inside to see if anyone was present. They were not. As I waited, another party of guests had arrived just as I had opened the “Employees only” door. They asked what was going on and I told them that I have been waiting for 10 minutes and there is no buzzer at the desk to summon anyone, so we just had to wait. I had prepaid on a “no refund” policy so I couldn’t just leave and find a different hotel. After 17 minutes a guy shows up from another area of the hotel. He apologized for the delay, but this is unacceptable. When we entered our room (#307) I was shocked to see that there was no Security latch on our metal door jamb. So the security and safety of our room was non-existent. As shown in the attached photos, this door has been kicked in multiple times as evidenced by multiple stripped out screw holes in the metal jamb and the metal door itself, even after relocating and resetting the latch hardware to a position above its original placement. How can hotel ownership be so oblivious and unconcerned about something so obvious. Makes me ask a very serious question as to why would this hotel have conditions of forced entry? In the dozens of hotels I have been in over the last 40 years, I have NEVER seen “breached” doors. Is it shady clientele or bad geographic location. Coupled with that, there was no “Do Not Disturb” door hanger to prevent staff from unexpectedly entering the room in the morning due to no security latch on the door. In addition there was another safety issue in the room. Where there was supposed to be a smoke alarm, the junction box on the ceiling, to which it was originally mounted, had bare wires dangling from the exposed junction box and no smoke alarm in place. Before going to bed I tried to set a desired sleeping temperature on the thermostat, but there was no visible digital reading on its screen. It was a blank solid gray, so we had to leave the room temperature control switch in the off position, not even knowing what the room temp setting actually would be if we switched it to heat or cool. Since the room temperature was comfortable enough when we went to bed, we did turn the fan to the constant “run” position to at least hide the loud freeway traffic a few short yards from the hotel. With the night time temp down to 40 degrees, at least the ambient room temperature when we went to bed simply re-circulated throughout the night at a tolerable level. Oddly, in the morning after the fan had run constantly all night, the digital display finally became visible, showing the room temp to be 75. I concede that this fault of the thermostat might not be easily noticed by housekeeping or maintenance staff, but they do need to replace this particular thermostat to insure it functions at all times. I had noticed when we first reached the main hallway to our room, it was very hot. Later I spied the hallway “locked down” thermostat and it was set on 82, which explained that. It might have been another reason that the temperature in our room and possibly others maintained itself through the night, due to the insulating factor of the very hot hallway. The following morning a t 9 am on a Sunday, when my wife and I took our showers, there was absolutely no hot water. We had to take an ice cold shower, so this hotel is ill equipped to handle the morning guest shower load. Being as old as this hotel is, it is hard to imagine that they would not already be aware of this obvious deficiency in their hot water heating capacity. Also, the shower-tub floor is extremely slippery with no anti-slip surface or anti-slip mat in the tub. I almost slipped and fell as I entered the shower. The hotel owners should be concerned about the liability of law suits. With the ice cold shower along with the previously noted, my blood was boiling, so I decided to document and nit-pick every negative that this property exhibited. Normally I am not super critical and somewhat easy to please, however this deserves exposure. So to continue, there was a blow dryer cradle on the bathroom wall, but there was no blow dryer. If you are not going to follow through on the promise of a blow dryer, take the cradle off the wall, even thought that did not affect us since we brought our own. If you want to sleep beyond sunrise in a darkened room, forget this property even though they have black-out shades over the window. Because, next to the window is a full glass door that simply has lever activated mini blinds embedded in the door. They are not black-out mini blinds, so shortly after sunrise the room was bathed in full light. And as a further example of not caring about the basics of property upkeep, the outside surface of the glass in this door has not been cleaned in months (if not years) and is so cloudy from the elements that is like looking through a frosted glass window (evidenced by the attached showing the view with the door open and the same view trying to see through the glass). Further, the air supply register had been sprayed with white paint to “refresh” it but whoever spray painted it, didn’t even bother to mask off the wall around the vent, so there was considerable over-spray and white paint running down the wall. And the adjacent return air vent was filthy and rusted over. Bottom line, this is the worst room I have ever stayed in because of incompetent and careless owners who obviously do not have the money or staff to maintain this property. As a Choice Hotels reward member, I can tell you that this Quality Inn severely tarnishes their brand for members who choose to stay at a Choice Hotels property but I guess they don't care, if they monitor reviews, because there are an overwhelming number of 1 Star reviews for this Quality Inn wich list many other dangerous guest experiences. My wife made the reservation without reading any reviews. I would have instantly crossed this one off my list So, avoid at all costs. At $100 for the night at this “NOT” Quality Inn, I would gladly stay at Motel 6 or another deep discount venue because you will have a better experience at 40% less along with a nicer property. Choice Hotels needs to disassociate this property from their brand and disenfranchise it.

On our first night, a bad storm hit the hotel which knocked the power out in the area. The afternoon of the second day, the hotel was still without power, so the hotel closed and kicked out all guests. We were told by the manager that they would refund the remaining night, once power was restored. Two months later, still no refund. When I call, the hotel.will only take a message. They never call back or answer emails. Even choice hotels hotline cannot do anything except send a "report", which does nothing. I'm not sure what the purpose is of this hotline. What a scam of a hotel.

The hotel is outdated. Lots of homeless people nearby. For instance, one is in the lobby. As i get some extra towel from the FD, he asked if he can do something for me so he can earn a free breakfast. (odd) My room is just sad. Lots of stain, not enough toiletries, needs a deep clean, dusty. Hallways feels like haunted. I would book a different hotel.
