Dunes Motel

The property has clearly had some cosmetic updates, but unfortunately the overall experience didn’t justify the high price. The first impression wasn’t great, as the motel is located next to a large adult store with a steady stream of questionable foot traffic. While that’s not the motel’s fault, it did affect how comfortable we felt arriving and leaving. That said, the man at the front desk was very polite and nice and allowed us to check in a little early. The room itself was quite small, the bed was uncomfortable, and the mattress had a noticeable urine odor. We chose not to report it because the motel was fully booked and it seemed unlikely another room would be available. I tossed and turned all night and so did my husband. The bathroom amenities also felt very budget-oriented. The combination shampoo/body wash wasn’t ideal, and the towels were heavily bleached, rough, and well worn. The closet area lacked a hanging rod, making it difficult to hang clothing. Also the TV was analogue and fuzzy, definitely needed a grade. Overall, I’d rate this as a step above a basic budget motel, but at the price we paid, I expected cleaner, more comfortable accommodations and better attention to detail. If you keep your expectations low, you may not be as disappointed.

I rented a room and when I arrived I was unable to get the key. Office was closed and no answered the number on the door.

I had reserved 2 rooms through Expedia. Myself in 1, my mother in the other room. Check-in was fine. Left for dinner, came back. Got my elderly mother to her room and helped her with the TV. TV was great. Got to my room, tried the TV and it was completely fuzzy and the picture was half the size of the TV. Went to the front desk and was told, "yeah, this has been happening, but I left a message through Expedia letting you know this". Right then I looked at my phone and told him he never left me a message and if he had, I would've canceled my reservation because I like to watch TV at night. I then asked if I could switch rooms (I hadn't even unpacked yet or used the toilet. He said no, they were full. I jumped on my phone and was able to make a reservation. I told him this is the 2nd time he's lied to me. He continued to fight with me about it. I've never had such a short fused customer service experience before. I had booked through Expedia and he wouldn't of refunded me anyways, he said. I went back to my room and decided to look around to see if there were any other issues. There were. I have pictures. Do not stay here. It definitely looks better online than in person. I've never had an issue with an owner who's of middle Eastern descent. This one gives them all a bad name. Besides the awful service, they do charge a $200 deposit! I've stayed at top of the line hotels and I've never been charged that much. I didn't expect the best, but I expected basic customer service. I don't like being lied to and I will for sure be letting Expedia know. STAY AWAY!
