A quite nice (almost) country inn. The slightly rustic accommodation is compensated for by the charm of the place and a remarkable breakfast concocted by the owner.

We were a party of three senior citizen couples traveling to ride the Frostburg Flyer in Cumberland Maryland. When looking for a place to spend a couple of nights, I came across the Golden Eagle Inn in Bedford Pennsylvania, about a 30 minute drive from the train station. We prefer to spend time in bed and breakfasts and inns (especially old historic buildings) rather than cookie-cutter chain hotels. The Golden Eagle Inn certainly fit the bill for us. The building dates back to 1794. When you enter, you actually feel as if you have stepped back in time (although with televisions, charging cubes, modern plumbing). Our group stayed in the John Anderson Room, the Mary Espy Room and the Addison Room. We were all very happy with them. They were charmingly decorated and several of our group wanted to take the mattresses home with them, they were so comfortable. We felt the rooms were a bit chilly when we checked in and the Innkeeper, Tom, immediately adjusted the temperature. Since there were six of us, we spent the last hour or so of each evening sitting on the delightful sun porch going over the events of the day. The dining room and the bar are elegantly decorated. Speaking of the dining room, the breakfast each morning was delicious and consisted of a very large plate for each person with several cooked breakfast items (plus a cup of fresh fruit). There was more than enough food served to keep all of us happy. The hotel also has a pub downstairs. Although we did not go, when we were sitting on the sun porch at night, we could hear the lively chatter. It seemed to be a very popular place. The building is right in the heart of downtown, surrounded by many restaurants and shops. I highly recommend this establishment, and hope to return.

This is a lovely charming inn in the heart of Bedford. Our room was clean and had all the amenities of a good hotel. There was plenty of off street parking which was important to us. It also has a pub where we were able to sit outside for dinner. The food was really good as was the breakfast the next morning which is included in the price. We will definitely be staying here on our next visit to Bedford.
