CLUBHOUSE HOTEL SUITES PIERRE

Stayed on a Thursday night and payed $270 for one night, with a lovely view of the rooftop over the pool. Hotel was decent and clean, but kind of dark especially in the bathroom - could have used bit more lighting. Outdoor patio area looked nice, though we did not use. We ate at the Italian restaurant which was connected and food was good. Would have given a 4-star review, but was disappointed to see a surprise “amenities” charge of $19.91 when we received our bill. After looking again at the hotel website, I see that “amenities” included the manager’s reception ( which was listed as ‘complementary’) and breakfast (also listed as ‘complementary’). Also see TV, microwave, refrigerator, free parking listed as ‘amenities.’ Hmmmm….guess next time we’d better request a room without TV, microwave, fridge, etc.

We stayed three nights this June for our daughter’s softball tournament. It ran us nearly $800 for the three nights — the best rate available, as it was during an event in town — so this wasn’t a budget stay. The property and grounds were immaculately maintained, and our ground-floor two-queen room was spacious, and just steps from the interior access door to RedRossa Italian Grille, a popular spot with a full bar and generous portions (and while it’s ostensibly Italian, some of its best dishes aren’t). That said, three things kept this from a higher rating, and I raised each at the front desk: 1. Housekeeping. Per the notice posted on the bathroom mirror, rooms aren’t cleaned unless you alert the front desk before 9:00 a.m. — with seemingly no exceptions. The notice is clear and I can’t fault them for disclosing it, but the policy seems needlessly rigid. 2. Breakfast. Decent, but no better than any comparable business hotel, despite reviews that had me expecting more. Three hot items (scrambled eggs, potatoes, link sausage) plus a gravy warmer over premade biscuits in a glass dish. Even the oatmeal was prepackaged. The automatic espresso machine produced serviceable coffee but nothing milk-based (e.g., no lattes). As a result, I’d have simply preferred higher-quality coffee from a traditional coffee urn. 3. Airport shuttle. Listings advertise a 24-hour airport shuttle, but nowhere is it posted that you must give the front desk 24 hours’ notice. When I asked, the clerk acknowledged a shuttle was already running my flight’s crew — yet said I couldn’t ride along because her manager never called her back to authorize it and the airline doesn’t like hotel guests riding with crew. She offered to call a taxi but not to cover it (rideshare ran about $34 for an 8-minute trip). At roughly $267 a night, covering a short cab fare for a stranded guest should have been a no-brainer. Instead, my partner had to get up with me at 5:00 a.m. for the run — and, to add insult to injury, we walked right past the crew, the driver, and the hotel van on our way out. The bones here are good: clean, well-kept, comfortable rooms in a convenient location. But the breakfast underdelivers against its reputation, the housekeeping policy is inflexible, and at nearly $270 a night the refusal to cover a $34 taxi was a genuine service failure. Had they simply paid for the cab they’d offered, I’d likely be writing a four-star review.

I had a wonderful stay at the Clubhouse in Pierre during a recent conference. The location was perfect, and the rooms were clean and warm, and very comfortable. The amenities in the room were great! I used the fitness room a few times and the restaurant right next door was very convenient. A special shout out to Shelby and Pam at the front desk-they were amazing! You can tell they truly love their jobs, and their kindness and professionalism made my stay even better. Highly recommend staying here if you're in Pierre!
