We were very much looking forward to our stay at this beautiful and historic hotel, particularly because the spectacular lobby and former train station are such a significant part of the experience and one of the main reasons we chose this property.
Unfortunately, during our stay a private wedding essentially took over the lobby and other common areas of the hotel. As paying hotel guests, we were extremely disappointed to find that one of the property's principal attractions and amenities was effectively unavailable to us.
What was particularly frustrating was the lack of advance communication. Had we been advised that a large private event would substantially affect our ability to enjoy the hotel and its public spaces, we could have made an informed decision about whether to stay on those dates or perhaps at another Mariott.
We completely understand that hotels host weddings and private events. The issue isn't that a wedding was taking place; it is the extent to which it was allowed to take over the hotel at the expense of other paying guests.
At some point, the hotel needs to decide whether it wants to operate primarily as a wedding venue or as a hotel. If it intends to be both, then there needs to be clearer communication and a much better balance so that one group of guests is not given the property at the expense of everyone else staying there.
I also reached out to Marriott directly after our stay to give them an opportunity to address our concerns. I received a generic response advising that they were looking into the matter, but despite allowing the time they requested for a response, I have heard nothing further. That has only added to our disappointment.
This is a unique and beautiful property, which makes the experience all the more disappointing. When guests are paying a premium to stay in a landmark hotel where the lobby itself is one of the star attractions, I believe the hotel has an obligation to be transparent when access to that experience will be significantly restricted, and to respond meaningfully when a guest raises a legitimate concern.

We spent two nights at Union Station Nashville Yards. Beautiful hotel with great history. Bar was nice in lobby and hotel provides a pamphlet with the history of the hotel (self guided walking tour). We had breakfast at the Stationary as well which was quite good. Location is very convenient. We had a room with an internal view which was lovely. The ceilings of our room were probably 20 feet tall. This building has a lot of history (our room was apparently a former administrative office). Will definitely stay again on our next trip to Nashville.
