The Line is a lovely hotel. Clean. Modern. Subtle by design. We have just returned from an extended visit to Mainland China, Taiwan and Malaysia over June and July. Plus a layover in Honolulu. So, a range of international accommodations, each and all designed to appeal to the sophisticated traveler. Our room at The Line was seriously underlighted. No proper installed lighting at the bathroom mirror, occasioning putting on makeup while sitting on the bedroom floor infront of its mirror. No bedside table on the outside of each bed. No wall electrical sockets there, either. Electricity was hidden in a central outlet box so stuck it required a staff member to jam it open. Housekeeping obviously did not ever report the problem. How is a CPAP device to be connected without a wall socket for each bedroom guest? THe Line appears designed for atmosphere as a priority over accessibility and guest convenience.

Truly a beautiful hotel from the second you step in to the lobby. Hakim and Isabelle G were extremely friendly and accommodating during the check in process, and were able to give me a really nice upgrade with the package I booked. Bed is comfy and low to the ground which makes it look very aesthetic. Rooms were clean, and housekeeping did great with getting everything reset by the time I was back.
Veracruz tacos and Alfred coffee right downstairs, probably the best coffee and tacos I've had in Austin (and that's says a lot considered I lived in Austin for 4 years and have tried a bunch of places). Pool area is great, with a walk up bar for smoothies and drinks.
It is downtown Austin so traffic did build up pretty quick right around of the hotel, believe they were doing construction but valet was always quick and provided good service.
Definitely more of a luxury stay, even though I did see some families. I was there through the weekdays so might be more families on weekends.
Overall loved the stay, the staff, and genteel vibe of the hotel. Would absolutely stay again.

The bed was very comfortable, the blackout curtains were extremely helpful, I was not ever awoken, nor disturbed by guests in other rooms, nor hallway.
I didn’t care for their complimentary shower and hand soap toiletries. The smell was overwhelmingly masculine, and not at all universal.
The shower space was al its non existent, the minibar was so overfilled with their items for purchase, I was shoving the few yogurts and ensures needed for a special, medically required diet.
They offered no complimentary food items at all, and only one small bottle per room.
I paid extra for a double bed room, but they smashed the furniture in a room unsuitable for two beds to fit properly.
It felt cramped, and dark.
They have very little lighting in rooms and bathrooms.
It is ok for a 1 night casual stay, or business trip.
The only way to make the rooms conducive to couples, and longer stays is to make tweaks to furniture arrangements, and lighting.
They should also allow space for personal items brought to the hotel.
There were definitely a few head scratching choices.
If they make a few much needed changes, the hotel could easily be a four star.
The location is great, as is their coffee shop.
