My partner and I checked into this hotel in Room 108 on the first floor. What we experienced was shocking and unacceptable. Because of other visible issues in the room (the filthy lamps and overall poor state of the bathroom), we finally checked the mattress more thoroughly on our last day. The moment we lifted the sheets (something no guest should ever have to do), what we found was disgusting: the mattress was covered in large, obvious dry urine stains and red stains that looked like dried blood. This is completely unsanitary and a serious health risk. If we had not lifted those sheets, we would never have realized the horrible conditions underneath. The hotel seems to expect guests to perform their own inspection of the most basic living conditions — pulling back bedding, checking mattresses, examining every surface — just to confirm the room is habitable. That is not reasonable, and it is certainly not our job as paying customers. We are guests who paid for a clean, safe room, not professional inspectors. The rest of the room was in deplorable condition: -Curtains were disgustingly dirty -The room (lamps and mattress area) smelled strongly of drugs -The tub was badly stained -The smoke detector was covered with a plastic bag (a serious fire-safety violation) When I spoke to the manager, Sara, she was unhelpful. Her response was basically, “Why didn’t you complain the first day?” The answer is simple: It is not our responsibility to verify hidden conditions like the state of the mattresses. We should not have to discover these issues ourselves. Guests should never have to “verify” that the bed they are sleeping in is free of bodily fluids. The location made everything worse. We witnessed suspicious activity at night, and the surrounding area felt extremely unsafe. This hotel should not run until it can meet basic standards of cleanliness and safety.
