Pearl South Padre

Preety place, the rooms needed more storage room. They charged for parkinglot and the shades at the beach 😠, didn't include breakfast. Expensive for what they offered

Our stay at Margaritaville Beach Resort South Padre Island was, unfortunately, one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we've had. We're a military family with two young children, and vacations are rare and something we truly look forward to. We paid out of pocket for this trip and expected much better. The problems started at check-in. We were initially given access to the wrong room because our wristbands were programmed incorrectly. After returning to the front desk, we were finally assigned our actual room. As soon as we walked in, there was such a strong chemical smell that it was difficult to breathe. At first, we thought it was cigarette smoke. We notified the front desk immediately and were told someone would come right away. After waiting about 30 minutes—and making another trip downstairs because my children couldn't stay in the room due to the overwhelming odor—we finally learned the smell was from fresh paint after recent patchwork. The room had little to no ventilation, making the smell unbearable. We were eventually moved to another room. Unfortunately, that was only the beginning. The second room also showed obvious signs of patchwork and needed significant updates. We later experienced power outages on one side of our room three different times. The first two times the power eventually came back, but on our final night it went out again, along with several neighboring rooms. While power issues can happen, what was most disappointing was the lack of urgency and concern from the staff. There was little communication and no apology for the inconvenience. We also had to wait 45 minutes just to receive face towels. When you're traveling with young children, basic necessities shouldn't take nearly an hour to arrive. The only highlight of our stay was the pool. Our kids had a wonderful time swimming, and that was truly the best part of the trip. Everything else—from the room conditions to the maintenance issues, customer service, and even the parking situation—left us extremely disappointed. I will be including photos of the ceiling and the condition of the room we were moved into because they speak for themselves. I had heard so many positive things about this resort from Texas travel pages and family recommendations, but unfortunately, that was not our experience. I cannot recommend staying here. If I had found an Airbnb after the first night, I honestly would have moved my family there instead. Save your money and look elsewhere.
