Came to Norfolk for a comedy show at the Harrison Opera House. Found this hotel because it was within walking distance to downtown granby and the show. I got a junior suite with a king bed. Couple of complaints. Checked in, no issues. Get to the elevator and only one works. Head up to the 12th floor…room keys dont work. Head back down after a 4 minute wait for the one working elevator. They say they are having issues with all the room keys not working. Great. Someone came up to the room and let us in with a master key I guess. There are no decorations on the walls. Just tv’s. One of which (in the bedroom) didnt work. It was stuck on an HDMI input, that i couldnt change. Go to the show and eat dinner. Come back to my room and to my surprise the room keys still dont work. Go back down stairs and they send someone back up. The toilet is wobbly and too close to the wall in the bathroom. Weird complaint but if i were any bigger than 215lbs, I would would have to use it sideways. The “kitchenette” is a small counter with a coffee maker and a microwave. Mini fridge under the counter, nothing fancy. I was charged $300 a night to sleep here. Because it was 1 of 2 hotels that were close to my event. Would not recommend. Unless it was $100 a night.

Absolutely Unacceptable. Worst Hotel Experience I've Had. I travel frequently for work, and I've never experienced anything quite like my stay at the Wyndham Garden Norfolk Downtown. When I arrived, only ONE of the hotel's FOUR elevators was working. After finally checking in, I went upstairs with my luggage, only to discover my room key didn't work. Back downstairs, another 20-minute wait, and eventually someone came up to let me in. Once inside, I discovered the toilet was filled nearly to the top with water, and the water supply was shut off. I requested another room. Back downstairs, another line, another trip up the one working elevator. And guess what? The SECOND room key didn't work either. When someone finally let me in, the air conditioning was broken. I tried calling the front desk, but nobody answered. So downstairs I went AGAIN. When maintenance eventually arrived, I learned something unbelievable: The hotel's entire electronic key system was down. They were checking guests into rooms knowing their keys wouldn't work, WITHOUT TELLING THEM. Had I known this at check-in, I would have stayed somewhere else. I was already late for a conference dinner because of these problems. Maintenance assured me the system was being fixed, so I left. When I returned, the key STILL didn't work. Another trip downstairs, another 30-minute wait in a massive line of guests dealing with the same issue. When I finally complained to a front desk employee named Grace (or Gracie), her response was that it wasn't her fault, she didn't break the system, and what did I expect her to do? I told her exactly what I expected: WARN YOUR GUESTS BEFORE CHECKING THEM IN! Her response? She told me I could still leave. I admit I raised my voice. After hours of this nonsense, I'd had enough. Equipment breaks. I understand that. But knowingly checking guests into rooms they can't access, failing to communicate major problems, and then treating frustrated customers like they're the inconvenience is completely unacceptable. I'm here to deliver a keynote at a professional conference, not spend my evening waiting for the only working elevator and begging staff to let me into a room I'm paying for. Avoid this hotel. Wyndham corporate needs to seriously address what's happening at this property.
