Rodeway Inn Civic Center

We were on vacation going on the Blue Ridge Parkway and spent the night here. First the good news … the staff was friendly and the rooms were modern. If you like caffeine, you are in good shape as there is both a Starbucks and Dunkin right in the same parking lot (you can also get a small discount at Dunkin for hotel customers). The breakfast, pool, and fitness center were also nice. Now the not good news … we are not that familiar with Roanoke and when we pulled in, everything looked fine. However, this place must have either had (or still having) some significant security issues. First, I got an email right before I arrived saying anybody living within 65 miles are not allowed to stay. As we walked to the front door, there were two no trespassing signs, something I haven’t run across before. Then when we went into the elevator, there was a major crack in the glass, another first for me. While it was covered up, it was clear it was deliberate. Finally, while the parking lot wasn’t that big, they had a security guard patrol it at night. Why? One other gripe as well .,. our room didn’t have a coffee maker, and they had a sign saying it’s not there with the whole we are doing it to help the environment. Really? You are only doing it to increase profits and if you do care so much, how come I couldn’t find any recycling bins anywhere in my room or in the rest of the hotel? While nothing went wrong during our stay, all these other security measures didn’t give us a good feeling so if we were ever back in the area, we would pick another hotel.

The hotel was a reasonable choice. It was clean, well located for our needs, and the staff were friendly.
