SEATTLE HILTON

We had two rooms booked for a five night stay. The hotel, like many, is built above a car park. Each night was $56 to park the car. Steep but I guess that’s a choice you make. We didn’t eat here purely as we wanted to eat in different places downtown. The lifts were shocking. Only two of four working and they were a nightmare and took forever. There was a doorman at certain times of the night which I guess doubled as security. The bar staff had very limited knowledge and although said they could do cocktails really couldn’t. The rooms were spacious and cool. The bathroom was fab.z

The hotel is about 15 stories above street level. Due to a broken elevator, it took an inordinate amount of time to get anywhere. Accessing the workout room with the broken elevator required us to go down an outdoor staircase for 20 or so floors from our room in a dingy outdoor city stairwell with homeless people living at the bottom and a smell of urine. The workout room water machine had no cold nor hot water in it - several other people working out were very disappointed that they could not access water during their workouts. The hotel did not provide coffee but instead offered a $40/day option for the "Executive Lounge," accessible via Key Entry once you paid. With a typical hotel, you would get a processed food breakfast and, of course, coffee. Rather than pay $40 for my morning coffee, I chose to go to the bar and order a cup for $6.00. We enjoyed our room very much and found it to be extremely clean; the bidet was an interesting touch that my family enjoyed. But when the fire alarm was set off on floor 17, my room, above it, did not hear it. I left the room randomly to see why my family was taking so long to get back from the workout room (which was already 20 flights of stairs or a 20-minute wait for the single elevator the building shared) and noticed that everybody had evacuated the building EXCEPT for people on my floor or above. Would we have burned alive? I felt very uneasy while sleeping after that. But the icing on the cake is that my husband left a nice wool sweater he had received as a Christmas gift and immediately called the hotel to place it on hold. The hotel never returned our numerous calls. We returned 9 days later to Seattle, hauled three rolling suitcases and several carry-ons from the Pier (Ferris wheel) to the hotel (a grueling, uphill, steep journey), and the sweater was nowhere to be found. We were panting, sweating, and exhausted after traveling from the Pier to the Coast Hotel, and they didn't even have our sweater! I wish they had called (or returned our calls) to tell us they had thrown it away before we made that grueling journey with luggage.

This hotel has 29 floors. Two of the four elevators are being remodeled and not working. I absolutely despise finding these things out at check-in. People at the desk are nice but this is a failure of management to advise guests prior to checkout. There is a $50 dog fee but no bed, no bowls. It’s a very spare hotel. Look elsewhere.
