We have been back to Serena's food outlets for the last month at least twice a week during the busy summer season. The staff are ALL sweet and pleasant to deal with. Some are new and they are full of promise and authentic hospitality. In particular, Juan, at breakfast is delightful. Evenings in Serena have a wonderful sunset over the sea with relaxed vibe (music was turned lower when requested) and the food is as good as any you can find in Punta Del Este. We are vegetarian so sometimes struggle in Punta Del Este, but the kitchen are consistently very accommodating. I had read other reviews and thought to myself that waiting a long time for your food to arrive or service in general in Uruguay is normal - nobody here is in a hurry and it's why we love the place. It's authentically chill.

Maleza Restaurant - Hotel Serena My opinion refers to the Maleza Restaurant that operates in the Serena Hotel since 2026, which is newly opened. Our experience was disastrous, to say the least. We went because it was advertised by chef Bartesaghi, who is known in restaurants like La Corte in Montevideo, with good performance. But it's going really wrong here. Attention. The waitress who attended us showed up saying that “she’s been working for 2 days” and as you could tell! He had no idea about the menu, he came to the table twice to go over each one’s order (he solved it with a pencil and a paper) anything he was asked would ask, he would withdraw 2 dishes when the third diner was not finished yet. And to top it off, in the end, without anyone calling her, she came to ask if we wanted the bill: that is, because they are not leaving. Food: 3 courses of diners with observations. A Tai rice that was a dry misfortune, a creamy and cakeless mushroom risotto and a salmon dish that the protagonist (salmon) had to look for with a magnifying glass of how small he was. What I wasn't a girl was the account that for what was the meal, it can be considered a robbery. Hopefully this new venture by Bartesaghi, as well as this one, does not pass the season. We obviously don't come back anymore and we'll tell friends and acquaintances not to go either.
