We recently stayed at Bolongo Bay and had a mixed experience. The biggest drawback was the room accommodations, which are in dire need of updating. While the rooms were clean, they felt dated and could benefit from significant renovations to match the beauty of the property and location. The shower in particular is very small with nowhere to place personal items.
The food was one of the highlights of our stay. Breakfast and dinner at Oasis were consistently excellent, and the steak dinner was especially outstanding. For lunch, however, we found Iggie’s offered better options and became our preferred choice during the day.
The beach itself was nice, but seaweed conditions varied throughout our stay. A few days after the full moon, there was a significant amount of sargassum, which impacted the beach experience and water access. Insider Tip: Order lunch food to go from Iggie’s and take it to Sapphire Beach, especially if you paid for the all-inclusive. Taxis are about $15-$20/pp one way.
Overall, Bolongo Bay has a great location, friendly atmosphere, and excellent food, but the aging rooms and seasonal seaweed issues make it difficult to rate higher until some updates are made.
