Ended up here after an awful night at the hotel our moto driver 'recommend' (we knew that would be a mistake!) and, without wifi, took to checking a few out. We paid 290,000 dong for a really nice twin room. It was nice and clean, aircon, fridge, tv, bathroom were all great. Added bonus: small balcony overlooking the main square, good for people watching and getting washing dry overnight. The wonderfully friendly couple who run the shop/bookshop helped us book the bus for our next stop, and i later read online others recommending a local tour from him. All in all, a happy accident stay for us, and would easily recommend hotel sao song to others. My guess is that management and standards have changed since last reviews. Ps - yes, the early morning bells were annoying for a few minutes, but we went straight back to sleep for a couple more blissful hours sleep. No other sounds woke us up

Location is nice upon first impression as it overlooks the town square, close to everything. However at 4am loud Public Announcements start followed by music at 5am, not for the weary traveller. Beds are very hard, linen very poor but clean. Airconditioning worked well. Bathroom basic and worn. Staff friendly but very limited english, hard to communicate. For those on a budget, excellent value! It's ok, but not for me.

We stayed at the Song Sao Hotel in Chau Doc and were very dissapointed, despite it being central and only $15 per night. The plus's was it's central location and that it has a lift. The negatives were that they suggested the price included breakfast, but when we wnet to pay pointed out the fine print which showed it was U$4 more. Then they just smiled at you. The breakfast was crap and certainly not worth the money. Our room was also dirty and infested with ants whcih got into our bags. Overall the place needs a makeover and wasn't good value and the staff were dishonest. You can do better. On a postive note we would definately agree with another reviewer that the old couple running the breakfast place/bookshop/ticket ofice next door were lovely and we booked our boat trip through then to Phnom penh.
