Sunflower One

I was planning on writing a good review until part way through our stay. We were booked into this hotel as part of a Ha Long Bay tour. Check in was quick and easy, up we went to the 10th floor. Our room had an amazing view of the bay from a little balcony, a little obstructed from the buildings in front but a great view nevertheless. The whole hotel is dated, which is fine and considering it's $15pn accommodation it exceeded our expectations, although, they were very low after a horrible night on a junk. On our second last day housekeeping decided to steal some items from our room and they actually confessed, bery unexpected. Reception staff decided to replace the items but obviously that doesn't make it ok, the damage was done. Otherwise, our stay was good. Cat Ba island was a refreshing break from the craziness of Hanoi and I urge anyone traveling to Cat Ba to stay longer than one night. There's not much there in the way of nightlife/entertainment but the natural beauty of the island (over development aside) and Lan Ha bay on your door step warrants at least a couple of nights stay.

Lots of cockroaches and the hardest bed I've ever slept on. If you can get it for less than $10 may be OK we only stayed because it was part of a tour. Location is Ok there didn't seem to be a restaurant and the electricity went off 4 times. Also the showers are positioned at a height only a smurf would find useful!

I was there in May'13. I am glad to say, luckily I only stayed there for one night. The water out from the tab is taste salty. And the reason given by the receptionist is that because the hotel is in the island. Please don't tell me that they use the sea water for the guests for shower, etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At night, the reception and the lobby are dark, and without on any lights. Me and my dear have to walk in the dark. It's make me feel so scary like a hunted hotel.. Anyway, I not recommend anyone of you to visit this hotel and I see the price is not cheap too. There still have plenty choices of hotel in Catba, please avoid this hotel.
