Apt EZ Holiday Hotel

Booked a night via Agoda and the pictures are NOT what you actually get. When I arrived at around 10 pm for a night's stay, the lobby was pitch black and the doors were locked. After banging at the door for a bit (out of fatigue and panic that I might not have a place to stay at for the night), the receptionist (who was asleep on the other side of the lobby) woke up, unchained the doors and let me in. The building is old, dilapidated and smells of mold. The room I got was on the 4th floor and the stairs going up are creaky and cracked. The door to the toilet can't be shut and the electrical sockets had burn marks. There were two reasons why I picked this hotel - it was cheap and (supposedly) near the Hanoi railway station. The cheap bit is true. For about USD 10/night, it is cheap. The near to the railway station is a stretch - it's at least 20 minutes walk away with the possibility of getting lost what with all the intersections you have to cross.

Simple hotel in a noicy location. Rooms were ppoor. Booked through booking.com, the description of the hotel was not as it appeared to be. I booked a De Lux single room, the room offered was a smelling small room , With a handshoer in the toilet. The room was so small, that you could hardly fit your luggage there. I negotiated a better room , but har to pay extra. Note that when you book With booking.com, you have not paid for the room. I thought so, because it appeared as if I han paid. Run into a discussion on the issue. In spite of the the less pleasant start, it ended up well. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. Location was sentral, Nice restaurants and cafes aroung, and walking distance to Kiem lake.

I planned to stay here 4 nights but only ended up staying one. The man at the desk was extremely pleasant, friendly and spoke good English. He took me to my room and must have seen the shock on my face since he proceeded to say 'well the room is cheap.' The room smelled of urine, hadn't been cleaned and the shower had fallen off the wall. If you want a private room on a budget and don't care about cleanliness then here's great but otherwise head somewhere else!
