Hanoi Golden Sunshine Hotel

Never slept in hotel with wool hat and raincoat on, plus no hot water. I expected a lot more based on cost per night. Absolutely cannot recommend.

I have travelled to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Senegal, El Salvador, Cambodia,... sleeping in cheap hotels, but this is the worst hotel that I have stayed in. I like hard beds, but the hotel’s beds were like to sleeping on the floor. The bed lien was dirty. There were many small flies in the room The location was good, but the street was very noisy. The breakfast was included, but when we went to have breakfast, they didn't have anything for us! They went to buy some bread. The breakfast was tea and bread with butter and jam. And the dining room... is a cellar where the staff have beds in witch sleep!! The staff was really unfriendly. They tried change the room, but the other rooms were similar. We had booked 4 nights in this hotel. We made a mistake: we paid the 4 nights the first day without looking at the room. The second day we looked for another hotel and checked out, but we didn't get back our money. We told the staff that we wanted to talk with the boss (we stayed in Hanoi 4 days) but the boss never stayed in the hotel. We booked a Halong cruise by internet with the hotel, but when we paid the trip the price wasn't the same. They included the taxes, but in the internet booking they told us nothing about the taxes. We travelled to Halong Bay with ODC company. This company was OK. We stayed 3 nights in the Hanoi Victory Hotel it was about 5 minutes walking from Golden Sunshine Hotel. It is a very good hotel with a nice room and a good breakfast (2 eggs, 1 sausage and 2 slices of toast). If you travel to Hanoi I recommend to you to book just for the first night. There are a lot of cheap hotels. And you can bargain the room price! We paid 25$ for a double room with breakfast in Hanoi Victory Hotel. It is good value for money.

We spend one night in a double room in Golden Sunshine Hotel in Hanoi. We paid 12 $ for one night including breakfast (which by the way consisted of a dry piece of bread and synthetic jam, not worth the money!). The location near Hoan Kiem Lake was great and the furnishing of the room was all right. The bed, though, was hard as a rock and not at all comfortable and the service at the hotel was really poor - except from one guy who was a bit more friendly and helped us book our trips to Halong Bay and Sapa. The trips were great and much cheaper than what we were able to find other places, around 15 % cheaper. They told us they had a special "discount-deal", as they just started up their business, and they we got 15 % off all tours to Halong Bay with Asia Cruise and to Sapa. We met a Russian couple who had had a lot of problems with the hotel e.g. rats in the room and overpricing when they paid there city tour and rooms.
